Free ASO tools that are actually free
Most "free ASO tools" roundups are lists of trials. The rule here is stricter: no card, no clock — if it stops working after 7 days or exists to upsell you at every click, it goes in the "cheap, not free" bucket instead. One disclosure up front: openaso is our tool. Its limits are stated with the same bluntness as everyone else's.

Apple's own surfaces — free forever
Start here. Nobody can paywall these, and every paid tool is downstream of them.
App Store Connect — App Analytics
Impressions, product-page views, and conversion for your own app, from Apple directly. The ground truth every third-party tool is trying to approximate.
Apple Search Ads — keyword popularity
A free ASA account exposes Apple's own 5–100 search popularity index in the campaign planner — no ad spend required. The same index openaso serves over API as volume.
App Store autocomplete
The ranked suggestion list under the search bar is demand data, straight from the source. Tedious by hand, one call as openaso's suggest.
Product Page Optimization
Apple's native A/B testing for icons, screenshots, and promo text — built into App Store Connect, free, and underused.
Genuinely free tools
500 tool calls/day and 500 tracked keyword × app × storefront combinations with daily snapshots, free in early access, no card. Ranks, suggestions, keyword demand, listing audits, coverage math, reviews, charts, revenue bands — as an MCP server, CLI, and JSON API. The catches: Apple App Store only, no download estimates, and revenue only as labeled order-of-magnitude bands.
Keyword tracking and review monitoring for two apps, with a monthly cap on review replies. Genuinely free and useful for small teams; the paid plans start when you need more apps or automation.
Free top charts on the web and the State of Mobile report series. It is marketing for the enterprise product, but the reports are real data and worth reading.
Cheap, not free
Good tools that belong in a budget conversation, not a free one. Entry pricing as reported July 2026.
What no free tool does
Store-wide download estimates, competitor revenue, usage and retention panels, ad intelligence. That data comes from paid panels and expensive modeling; it is why Sensor Tower costs what it costs. A free tool claiming store-wide download numbers is guessing — openaso's own revenue tool ships as labeled order-of-magnitude bands for exactly this reason.
Questions people actually ask
Is there a completely free keyword rank tracker?
Yes — openaso checks live per-storefront ranks free (500 calls/day) and its managed tracker snapshots up to 500 keyword × app × storefront combinations daily. AppFollow's free plan also tracks keywords for two apps in a dashboard.
Does Apple give keyword search volume for free?
Yes, indirectly: any free Apple Search Ads account can see Apple's 5–100 popularity index per keyword. openaso serves that same index over an API where Apple carries a signal, and a labeled independent estimate where it doesn't.
Why do free tiers keep disappearing?
Because serving store data costs money at scale. App Annie's beloved free Store Stats died with the company; freemium tiers shrink as vendors move upmarket. Treat any free tier — including ours — as free-now, and prefer tools that say what the limits are and why.
the free stack, one key
Apple's surfaces for your own app, openaso for everything you'd otherwise click through by hand — ranks, keywords, audits, reviews, charts — callable by your agent or a script.
